Photo series, zine & reading, 2025 Flurina Schneider & Hel Proißl
Jonny, also known as ferrari161, is a Muay Thai fighter based in Vienna. At Sportstudio Heimlich in Vienna’s 3rd district, she trains together with her coach Martin in preparation for an upcoming competition in Thailand. I accompanied Jonny during her training and documented it photographically. As someone who boxes myself, I have been engaging for some time with FLINTA* people in boxing. I am interested in how FLINTA*people interact with one another in boxing contexts—in comparison to cis-male–dominated training environments—and how toughness, endurance, and emotional resilience are negotiated.
In the exhibition at Verein FORTUNA(Westbahnstraße) in January 2026, I, Flurina Schneider, present an analogue photo series shot in medium format (camera: FUJIFILM GW 690 III) and 35mm format (MINOLTA AF ZOOM 80), combined with field recordings from a FLINTA* boxing training session. While photographing, it was important to me to adopt a visual perspective that approaches the protagonist with respect and sensitivity. In addition, Hel Proißl performs a text that engages with the sounds and the Viennese dialect of boxing.
